Poem
WNYC (local NPR radio station) is celebrating National Poetry Month and they started a three week challenge. Here’s one of my favorites from week 1

Ode to a Refrigerator

Largely ignored, you were just a fridge tucked in a corner.
Maybe photos or post-it notes dressed up your portal.
Your presence began to assert itself when the threat of
a scourge became a reality.
Now.. you are iconic and indispensable.
An urge to explore your recesses, eying your
contents to be reassured that you are replete,
draws the suppliant.
You are now a destination that lures the pilgrim,
providing comfort and relief from the mesmerizing
screens dominating our lives.
A path to your niche, no longer considered a lowly corner,
incessantly tread, triggered by an elemental human
instinct: survival.
You gleam as a hand reaches out to grasp your handle.
Gloating about your elevation in the life of a mere mortal,
while a hand retrieves a tantalizing bottle of Prosecco,
and lips cautiously rebuke refrigerator idolatry with a timid

Joke (oldie but goodie, prob from my dad)
Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the  years they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards.

One  day they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, “Now  don’t get mad at me…..I know we’ve been friends for a long time…..but I  just can’t think of your name! I’ve thought and thought, but I can’t  remember it. Please tell me what your name is.”

Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared and glared at her. Finally she  said, “How soon do you need to know?”

Donations
I am donating to several local food pantries. They are in desperate need. Here’s a good one:

New Jersey Reentry Corporation
NJRC is a non-profit agency with a social mission to remove all barriers to employment for citizens returning from incarceration.
